Country Governance

The Republic of Kazakhstan was the last country of the former Soviet Union to proclaim its independence on 16 December 1991. The President of the Republic of Kazakhstan is the head of the state and commander-in-chief of the Kazakhstan’s armed forces. Mr. Nursultan Nazarbayev is the current president of Kazakhstan.

Mr. Karim Masimov is the Prime Minister and a head of the Government. The Government consists of Prime Minister, Vice Prime Minister, Deputy Prime Minister, 14 ministers and 8 agencies. The government chart is provided in Appendix 1.

The Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan is the supreme legislative body. The Parliament consists of two chambers which are the Senate with its 47 members and the Majilis with its 107 members. The Parliament structure is provided in Appendix 2.

The Supreme Court of the Republic of Kazakhstan is the highest appellate court. The Constitutional Council consists of seven members and has the legitimate power to provide clarifications on the Constitution.
International Policy 

Kazakhstan has been established as a peaceful and prospective country, and has quickly earned trust and authority from other countries. Kazakhstan has a stable political climate and traditions.
